Among these, some are slated for review but ALL of them will be read before the end of the year. Ambitious? Yes! Possible? Of course! So many publishers and authors are kind enough to send me their books, some of which I end up teaching, all of them which I enjoy. There are countless stories out there, and even more books I haven't read or heard of yet. I'm fascinated by the ways we choose to t...

Some practical advice I heard many moons ago was that there will be rooms where your name is uttered that you'll never be aware of. And this is ok! This is a reminder that if you are doing the work (what YOU deem is the work) and reaching people, that what you create will nurture a future opportunity, whether it comes in the form of a new person discovering you or an invitation to read elsewher...

This reading took place on (3/21/24) during the SOMOS Festival out of Rutgers-Newark. I love a good performance, but it's always special when I get to read at my alma mater, especially among colleagues, childhood friends, community members, and several high schools in the area. This poem, 3rd Generation is a bit of a throwback from my first collection, Every First & Fifteenth by Digging Press (...

Chimera, unicorns, and totems, oh my! Bestiary is a collection I wish I had read while studying up on different ways to write animal poems. The allegorical framework of existed myths and tales to contextualize the contemporary thoughts on the human condition/processes make this book a necessary read especially for early-career writers. 🦄🦁🦂 📘 Purchase this book here: www.amazon.com/shop/dimitrir...

Relationships with my art are relative to relationships with loved ones: they have to be cultivated and listened to. Sometimes this means that a break is needed or you have to converse with each other in order to find some balance. I enjoy the thrill I get from being in the reinventions of creativity and it keeps everything new. How do you stay connected to your artistic spirit? ☀️👨🏽🎨 🕊️📕 My N...

When this book first came out, it was the "post-confessionalist" book that I needed as I was still discovering where my voice fit in American letters. Akbar is a poet of emotional space, where quick turns and powerful lines are consistently in each verse. 🐺🩻 📘 Purchase this book here: www.amazon.com/shop/dimitrireyespoet 🕊️📕 My New Poetry Book, Papi Pichón, now available! gfbpublishing.org/shop...

LIFE AS A POET !!! Gigging for years and working with authors and booking events, I've started observing slow and busy seasons regarding poetry readings. This may differ a bit per region and if you aren't in the United States, but this is what I've seen in the East Coast specifically. There isn't any definitive schedule either, so if you have anything to say about it, please sound off in the co...

I'm still thinking about a conversation I had with a group of writers and teachers at a college in March where we started discussing the relationships between writing and teaching and how they inform one another. Though I LOVE writing I'd call myself a teacher first. I enjoy what I do on social media and in classrooms. These activities directly inform how I write. The conversations had and the ...

I'm a poet & an artist and no one can tell me otherwise, but from time to time, there are things that I worry about. Such as: is my work getting across to people? Are people finding what I do helpful/effective? Are people hearing me?!? Are people even finding me?!?! Of course, there is a definitive yes to these answers via feedback and algorithms, but this goes to show how easy it is to fall in...

Ah, a fellow poet - love it. I have been lucky enough to make poetry, review writing & literary essays my career. Love your performance angle. I hear a Ginsberg influence? I look forward to following you.
Hello, poet! Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate you enjoying my performance angle. I've gotten Ginsberg before, and though he isn't a direct influence, the fact that we're both from Newark, NJ must carry a particular energy.😆
@@DimitriReyesPoet: I look forward to following you.
I just don’t want people to be able to google my name and find pictures of me or know all my information. I wish to write and illustrate my own children’s picture books. Similar to dr seuss or eric carle. But im a very anxious person. And i don’t want anyone to know who i am. I don’t have any social media for this reason. Can i be an anonymous children’s book author and Illustrator but still keep my privacy?
Hello! The short answer is yes, but the caveat is that community really drives the arts. If you are self publishing a book, you CAN rely on the algorithm gods to push your book, but my main concern with anonymity is getting others to read your work. Without social media or a front-facing identity where the author would make visits and plan readings, the anonymous author would have to get a bit more savvy on how to engage with an audience. Hope this helps!

@@DimitriReyesPoet i meant can i go to a publisher and have them publish it but keep my identity a secret. Maybe a pen name or something.
I kind of sped into a different direction in my first reply-- to answer your question in a different way, you'll HAVE to pick some sort of pen name, whether it's Brenda Mayfly or Kombucha Sunshine or Shark97281 to appear as your author name. In order to publish the book though, the company, such as Amazon KDP will need your background info, credit card number, address, etc for tax and payment purposes. This won't be used publicly, though I'm not sure whether or not a very tech savvy researcher can find this out
@@DimitriReyesPoet thanks
Thank you so much, I've been sitting on my book for two years now and I'm just going to publish it this time.
Wonderful news. Best of luck!
Amazing
Thank you!
I have four poetry books (but they're in spanish because it is my first language). I published one this month, i just use WORD and CANVA for the inside/ outside... I want to publish the other three books but i am not sure if it is ok or convenient to publish all at once... Of course i have no sells (well, just two sells)
Hola Emma! Felicidades on the publishing of your book! 🥳 Usually, it's a good idea to take some time between publishing books, as you want to give people time to purchase and spend time with each one. Sometimes, authors publish multiple books at the same time, and one can suffer in sales over the other. I think you should concentrate on letting people know about the book and having others share the link in order to get more people interested.
This is the first tip that was actually useful! Thanks so much, and it makes so much sense too because I sing so much karaoke😂
HAHA! Glad this was helpful!
I have an performance in a couple of hours and I can’t memorize shit
How did the performance go?
I did all of that and he just said I need to pay $5.99 so what are you saying again I'm sorry I'm lost
That sounds so very inspirational i really appreciate it but do you know there's people out there that's actually giving that report for free i thank you really appreciate that i will go because my poetry removed all that would you have to say make someone else become noticed what you got a hold of that play some how do you ever pass the torch
Congratulations
Thank you. I always remember this video because of the "rain sequence" ☔️
Wow i need 😮
It's still going strong!
Does you tube or tik tok own your poems if u publish on shorts or video? How do you copyright?
Nice 👍👍
Hello…good info. I am a poet. Was looking at Book Baby…companies like that. What is your view?
Are the really thin books art books? What kind of books are they?
They're an assortment of artist books and chapbooks
Good advice! I feel like most videos addressed to new poets focus only on classical poetry or contemporary poetry. Reading a balanced variety is probably best.
Thanks for the feedback, you're right!
Keep informing keep inspiring us like this..
Glad you found this video as a source of inspiration!
how to put poetry in manuscript. I uploaded one poem. It said it needed 76 pages. It would not accept the next poem
You have to copy and paste all of your poems in one document. The very first page of your book should be your title page, followed by your copyright page, then the table of contents. The next page is either a dedication page or a note from the author (this is optional). After this point it's poem1, 2, 3, etc. KDP apparently is asking for 76 pages but that's 76 pages total and not 76 one page poems. Hopefully this helps you.
Thank you
You're welcome, I'm thinking of making an update video to this video because so many people have questions. If you have any then reply here and I'll include it in the next video.

Such a gorgeous building. You were oozing energyyyyyy <3
Thanks my love! <3 I still see the architecture when I close my eyes 😄
His poem was killer of giants. Really nice poem.
I'd like to think the magic of my poems could overcome a giant!
Love is a magical thing. Hanging off a wing. Love is like a rock and a paper airplane. I crashed into your smile went around and around for a while. Like a puppy dog I was there searching for hot springs in the air. . Everytime you give me attention my heart drops in a million pieces. I am always flying high my speedometer goes everywhere so don't send me on a crash course. I will prove you wrong for my love you got the smile that sends me flying. Don't you climb to the heights that you bring. Hope there is no rain today. Cuz I couldn't take it if you went away. But if you go just know my my injection seat is always there every time that you hurt me dear.
nice poem!

Can’t pick just one! Mary Shelley, George Sands, Louisa May Alcott, Edgar Allan Poe, ee Cummings, Nora Zeale Hurston, Ntozake Shange, Audre Lorde, Bell Hooks…dinner party for 10!
Plus you…Party of 11 ❤
OH WOW, me too?! You're too kind! Great list, too. I got a chance to meet of the people on this list :-) Ntozake was the most calming spirit
Maybe Astrid Lindgren or Maria Gripe, or even Katarina Genar. I grew up with their books so maybe I’m biased. I still think it would be interesting to have a conversation with them, two out of these three are dead though
You can always converse with them by returning to their books!
Bruh I merged my bio with the intro into one paragraph. Mind sharing an actual example statement for the cover letter ?
You match with the wall 😊
I DO! Didn't plan it, I swear! lol
Great question brother. Returning to an old impetus, what began as thunder, rage. Poetry reigns.
Glad you appreciated this, brother. Happy writing and discovering.
And six, ignore the number 4 at all costs 😂
LOL I cackled at this! Someone else had caught that, and this was my solution at a later date : ua-cam.com/users/shortsOVRHvtXC_ts?si=OubSU6n8gRIrwtdY
Listen,…. If you’re recommending a podcast that is ONLY available behind a PAYWALL, like Spotify, then TELL us that we have to go through a PAYWALL,…. Also, list peoples FULL NAMES,…. Also, ease up on the caffeine or speed or whatever it is that’s making you practically yell and motion with your arms flailing like your some kind of midway hawker at a state fair,…
They're all free on Spotify. And I try and fit a lot of info in a 60 second video. Things like full names in the end can get cut as they're easily searchable. It's a free service among the many other paid services I offer and I'm always trying to maximize time. And the hands??? The arts just excite me. No caffeine, just books.
❤
Can you give a few examples of hybrid works from authors that you love? I am working on a hybrid work and would love to gather a list of poets who have done it
YES! I made this video just for you. I hope you got to see it. ua-cam.com/video/sgGbfQQ3WZU/v-deo.htmlsi=YQ2SA4aDe6SZxBsm
Hi sir, could you help me to publish my poem? Thnk you
Not The Essential Rumi at the thrift store!! 😲😱 I don’t ever see anything that good at the thrift stores in my area. Lucky you! ❤
Rumi is EVERYWHERE here!
Roughly how many poems do you include in one book?
It depends on the size of the book. 1 long poem could take up a whole book. But usually it's somewhere in the 30-50 range.
“Poetry is stretching your wings to full capacity as you soar.” --Avis Pope #Poet 🥰
Beautiful, poet!
How many poems are you putting into your artist books?
I put 6 in mine but that's because I also included illustrations.
Thank you appreciate the information. I do have works 450 pcs and trying to digitized them at this point.
Best of luck! Trust the process.
Yessss!!! Everyone get one!!!
Thanks for your support!
